Santa Eulalia Ibiza
The council of Santa Eularia des Riu occupies the most eastern part of the island of Ibiza. The borough is notable for having the only river in the Balearic Islands running through it. Although in the dry season it has no water, throughout history it has been of vital importance for the development of the district. Â Its waters turned the wheels of a whole network of flour mills which were grouped around the foothills of Puig de Missa, as well as irrigating the large expanses of cultivated land known as the Horta de Santa Eularia. A visit to the centre of Santa Eularia will allow you to get to know one of the towns which have grown most over the last couple of decades. The town has grown in the area around the promenade, which is a very busy area, and around the main street, which is also the main road leading to the borough's other parishes. The Paseo de s' Alamera, which links the beach with the Town Hall, gets very crowded. In Santa Eularia there is a street dedicated to the Catalonian painter, Laureano Barrau (1863-1957), who lived a large part of his life in the town. He died in Santa Eularia and is buried in the cemetery.
