San Antonio
The borough of Sant Antoni de Portmany (San Antonio), situated in the northwest of lbiza, incorporates the resorts of Sant Antoni de Portmany, the administrative centre and seat of the Town Council, Sant Rafel, Corona and Sant Mateu. It has a total population of 15,000, 40%, of which live in rural areas, and a surface area of 124.5 square kilometres. San Antonio includes the parishes of Sant Antoni de Portrnany, Sant Rafel de sa Creu, Sant Mateu d' Albarca and Corona, also known as Santa Agnčs de Corona. The tourist resort town of San Antonio has grown spectacularly over the last few years. San Antonio Church is one of the very few remnants of the original buildings which have survived the explosion of tourism. It is located in the centre of the old quarter and resembles a fortification, with a fortified tower and baroque belfry. The structure is based around a single nave which is divided into five sections by pointed archways. In addition to the many services offered by San Antonio, it is also possible to buy many curious local products. On Ibiza, shopping can easily become an adventure and provide another type of entertainment during the holiday period. Numerous little street markets offer the visitor all kinds of local produce and traditional handicrafts. If you wish to purchase a typical souvenir of your stay without spending too much, you will find many small clay models of typical Pitiusas houses, Ibiza herbs or even a bottle of “frígola”, a very popular liquor among both islanders and visitors alike. Over the last few years the area has begun producing lbiza and Formentera wines.
